Spoiler alert: it’s so much more than clicking “book now.”

As the owner of Stephanie Goldgell Getaways, my favorite part of being a travel agent is turning someone’s idea of a perfect vacation into a perfectly real experience — filled with special touches, personalized itineraries, and little surprises that online booking engines could never deliver.

Every great vacation starts with a conversation. I always say, “Tell me how you want to feel on your trip.”
Are you looking for adventure? Relaxation? Romance? Family bonding?

Understanding your personality, travel style, and pace helps me build a trip that truly fits you.
For instance, if you’re a laid-back traveler who loves culture but hates crowds, I might suggest a shoulder-season trip to Italy in September — when the weather is beautiful, but the lines at the Colosseum are short.

Or if you’re an overworked parent in need of total recharge, I’ll find a resort with a world-class spa and a kid’s club that keeps everyone happy.

Here’s where the magic happens — and where having a travel agent pays off.

I tap into trusted supplier networks, exclusive partner deals, and first-hand experiences to find options that match your wishlist (and your budget). Because I work directly with travel suppliers and have insider relationships, I often find:

Cruising Through the Seasons: When to Set Sail and Why It Matters

I’ve always believed that timing is everything—especially when it comes to cruises. After exploring the open seas on everything from Caribbean escapes to Alaskan adventures, I’ve learned that when you cruise can make all the difference in your experience, price, and even the view from your balcony.

Let’s break it down by destination and season—with a sprinkle of my own cruise memories to guide you:

🚢 Caribbean Cruises: Winter Escape Perfection (December–April)

Why it’s the best time:

• The weather is warm, sunny, and dry (perfect beach vibes).
  
• It’s the ultimate winter escape for us East Coasters when BWI and DCA are snowed in.
  

My take:
 I’ll never forget sipping coconut water in the Dominican Republic while my friends back home were bundled up in coats. That January cruise was worth every penny—and I booked it months in advance for a steal.

💡 Tip: Book during “wave season” (January–March) for the best deals and cabin upgrades.

🐳 Alaskan Cruises: Prime Wildlife & Glacier Viewing (May–September)

Why it’s the best time:

• Wildlife like whales, bears, and bald eagles are most active.
  
• Long daylight hours and relatively mild temperatures make excursions unforgettable.
  

My take:
 I cruised to Alaska in June, and watching a glacier calve while sipping hot cocoa on the deck was pure magic. Pro tip: Bring layers! That sunshine can quickly turn to mist and fog.

🧥 What to pack: Layers, binoculars, and a waterproof jacket. I was thankful for mine during a surprise rainstorm in Skagway.

🍷 Mediterranean Cruises: Late Spring and Early Fall (May–June, September–October)

Why it’s the best time:

• You skip the summer heat and crowds.
  
• The ports (like Barcelona, Rome, and Athens) are full of local life—not just tourists.
  

My take:
 Cruising the Greek Isles in September felt like I had the islands to myself. And let’s be honest, it’s more fun to explore without melting into your sundress.

🍇 Travel hack: Look for repositioning cruises in spring and fall—they’re longer and cheaper!

🏝️ Bahamas & Short Cruises: Year-Round But Best in Shoulder Seasons (April–May, September–early November)

Why it’s the best time:

• Fewer families traveling = quieter ships.
  
• Cheaper prices and warm weather.
  

My take:
 Perfect for a quick getaway! I took a 4-night Bahamas cruise in early May, and it was the perfect refresh. Great weather, fewer crowds, and I still made it home in time for a Monday morning meeting (barely 😅).

✨ Bonus: Many of these cruises leave from convenient ports like Miami, Orlando, or even New York.

🌊 Cruise Timing Tips Across the Board

• Hurricane Season (June–November): Cruises still run, and deals are amazing, but be flexible. I’ve cruised in October and loved it, but always get travel insurance.
  
• School Holidays = Higher Prices + More Crowds: If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, try to avoid spring break and mid-summer.
  
• Wave Season (January–March): Best time to book, not necessarily to sail. That’s when the cruise lines drop all the best deals and extras.

I love a good scare, and this land sounds like it’s going to deliver. You’ll step into the world of the classic Universal Monsters like Frankenstein, and The Wolfman. Picture towering gothic castles, eerie forests, and thrilling attractions that will immerse you in the golden age of horror.

3. How to Train Your Dragon Land

Families and fans of the DreamWorks series will adore this land. You’ll be able to explore- Isle of Berk the Viking village from the movies, and even fly on a dragon-themed ride. I’m personally excited to see how they bring these majestic creatures to life in what’s sure to be an incredibly detailed environment.

4. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter- Ministry of Magic

Experience new thrills with Harry, Ron and Hermione in - Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. Encounter magical creatures as you explore shops and cafes.

Racing across the cosmos on an amazing roller coaster, dine on other worldly cuisine shops. Riding a shooting star  on Stardust Racer, flying toward each other in this dual launch coaster with blazing colors and incredible speed and ethereal music. Something a little slower try Constellation Carousel.

If you’re a fan of musicals like The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, you’ll love this. • Paint-by-Number Mural: I’m not an artist by any means, but participating in the festival’s massive mural always makes me feel like one. Every guest gets to paint a small part of the mural, and by the end of the festival, it’s transformed into a beautiful, colorful masterpiece. • Live Art Demonstrations: Watching talented artists create their work in real-time is incredibly inspiring. I remember seeing a chalk artist one year, transforming a simple sidewalk into a stunning 3D work of art. A must-try for me? The deconstructed dishes and colorful desserts—they’re almost too pretty to eat, but trust me, they’re worth every bite!

• Deconstructed Dish: I’m a sucker for anything deconstructed, and this food studio does it perfectly. The deconstructed cheesecake is a must-try—it’s beautiful, and the flavors are out of this world.
• Pop Eats!: I love the fun, pop-art-inspired dishes here. The Rainbow Cake is not only vibrant and colorful, but it tastes amazing, too. Pair it with the Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese, and you’ve got yourself a winning combo.
• The Artist’s Table: For something a little heartier, head to The Artist’s Table. The beef wellington is a personal favorite, and it’s as beautiful as it is delicious. You can find it near the American Adventure Pavilion.And don’t forget the drinks! There are so many creative, colorful cocktails to try. I always make sure to grab a colorful margarita or one of the specialty drinks that are almost too pretty to drink (but I do anyway!).
